The Stories Unfold
Everyone has a story. The telling of our stories helps us to understand ourselves and the world in which we live. Theatre plays a vital role in that process - explaining the unexplainable, unravelling the most complex situations, and offering solutions.
Our 2010 subscription season tells a lot of stories and covers the gamut of emotions and relationships. There are issues of non-acceptance, and secrets, of difference and mistaken identity. There’s tragedy and grief, as well as love and laughter – the stuff the world is made of really.
The book-end stories to the season are Codgers (May) with a stellar cast of old codgers, and Mathinna (October), from the internationally acclaimed Bangarra Dance Theatre. One deals with optimism, hope, and joy in living, while the other is the heartrending and poignant story of a young girl caught between two worlds.
In between there is the warmth and wit of Halpern & Johnson (Garry McDonald & Henri Szeps), the beauty of La traviata (OzOpera), the comedy of Twelfth Night (Bell), the thought-provoking and funny modern classic A Day in the Death of Joe Egg (Critical Stages), the triumph of friendship in Fox (Monkey Baa), and the return of Menopause The Musical (HIT Productions) for a straight forward good night out.
