Sculptor Garry Greenwood dreamed of a leather orchestra, with instruments influenced by many families and traditions. The Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery began a collection of his works which, when joined by those in local private collections, generates a large ensemble with a colour range as wide as a symphony orchestra. Over 30 Greenwood leather instruments: strings, winds and percussion; will combine for this rich and resonant realisation of the master artist’s dream.
Created and produced by The Chordwainers.
We gratefully acknowledge the generous support of The Friends of the Queen Victoria Musuem and Art Gallery and Junction 2010 Festival.
Imagine an orchestra made of Greenwood leather instruments: strings, winds and percussion...
An ensemble with a colour range as wide as a symphony orchestra, the Tasmanian Leather Orchestra is a rich and resonant realisation of Garry Greenwood’s master vision.
