Prologue for Potentials
The project which helps to tell the stories through support for local playwrights ...
Earl Arts Centre
Sunday 22 August at 2pm
Theatre North continues to present this successful script reading project. The project, which gives local playwrights an opportunity to hear their scripts being read aloud by professional actors in an informal setting, has already expanded in 2010 with the addition of a professional dramaturge, adding critical advice and feedback from a literary perspective.
Local playwright and director, Carrie McLean, was invited to submit her latest script, Beautiful, which was read in May. Carrie enjoyed working with dramaturge David George and director Dr Helen Trenos.
Beautiful reveals different stories - all happening simultaneously, separated only by white lines on an apartment block floor plan. The characters cannot see through the walls, but the audience sees everything and is given the choice where to look.
The August reading will follow the previous format with scripts being submitted for selection. Each play will be introduced by a moderator and the audience, actors and playwrights will be invited to comment afterwards.
The main aim of the project is to provide creative development opportunities for Tasmanian playwrights.
Tickets are still available (for the remaining reading in August) at the Princess Theatre Box Office on 6323 3666 or at the door on Sunday 22 August for $12.
Numbers are strictly limited - so don´t risk missing out.
